My Early Beginnings

My sincere passion for and roots in medicine and natural healing run deep and strong.  It began at the tender age of 5 years old, when my dear grandpa Sam, a WWII U.S. Army surgeon and general practitioner, took me on house calls in his old Studebaker.  I was curious about the fluid-filled bell jars hosting strange things on his back car seat and he regaled me with fascinating stories about Mr. Zuckerman's prostate, a neighbor's bladder polyps, etc., painting such colorful pictures of these people that they came alive in my hungry, young mind.  I was also influenced by my uncles who were physicians, and by our old, crusty, British family physician, Dr. Russell, whose clever wit and gentle encouragement to explore medicine as a career inspired me to be a doctor from my youth.  Though, I felt a strong inkling that there was far more to healing than what my childhood mentors knew and practiced.
